The Power of Produce (PoP) program is a farmers market initiative that promotes healthy eating and local agriculture for young people by empowering them to choose their own fresh produce. All kids and youth ages 1-18 years-of-age are eligible to receive $4 in tokens each week to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at the farmers market. The PoP program connects all ages to local agriculture, gets them excited about produce, and transforms the Annandale market into a family affair.
The University of Minnesota Extension first introduced the PoP Program to the state in 2014. It found almost immediate success and since then over 30 markets across the state participate. PoP Programs are managed independently by individual markets, responsible for their own registration, distribution, and fundraising.

So how does it work?
First, register for the 2023 season. Then, when you arrive at City Hall Square head over to the market booth in the corner of the market to sign in. At the market booth give your first and last name and you'll be handed two $2 tokens to spend on fresh fruit, vegetables, or herbs. Participants may use their tokens right away or save them up for a big purchase later on. If a kid or youth participant is unable to attend the market, their parent, guardian, or family member may collect tokens on their behalf.
And with that, enjoy your fresh produce! |
